Waitmond L. Vire Sr. was born January 26, 1926 in Braddock, Pennsylvania. He was one of eight children born to Roscoe Vire and Helen Goodlow. Waitmond L. Vire married Charlsie M. Seaborn and moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They were married for over 50+ years before Charlsie M. Vire passed June 9, 2010. Waitmond L. Vire at the age of 18 enlisted in WWII April 22, 1944 in Albermarle County, Virginia. He was active in the U.S. Army, serving April 22, 1944 and honorably discharged on February 16, 1946, then he re-enlisted for six more months after his honorable discharge. While in the service he worked as a semi-skilled mechanic and repairman. He toured Central Europe and was decorated with the medal of good conduct. Waitmond Vire was also decorated with the American Campaign Medal; European African Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star, and World War II Victory Medal. After being discharged from U.S. Army, Waitmond Vire worked in maintenance for Dollar Savings Bank for 15 years. There after worked for himself as a carpenter. Waitmond L. Vire departed this life on February, 11, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlsie M. Vire and son, Waitmond L. Vire, Jr.

Waitmond is survived by his sisters, Martha Walker and Francis Dickerson; son, Othinel Vire; two daughters, Adriel Vire and Gamal Theodore; two grandchildren, Amanda Theodore and Charlsia Davenport.
