Obituary Image

On Thursday, July 7, 2016, after battling cancer, Thomas West Jr., affectionately know as "Tom" was called by the voice of God to depart this life.  Tom was born in Carnegie, Pennsylvania on June 26, 1931 to Jessie West-Dexter and Thomas West Sr.

At a young age Tom joined and was baptized at First Baptist Church, McDonald Pennsylvania.  Throughout his life he reconfirmed his love of a Savior that could save with sweet and beautiful conversations shared with his siblings; and with family and friends.

Educated in the McDonald Public school system Tom enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in Korea.  He served his country and was Honorably Discharged on November 19, 1954, having risen to the rank of Corporal.

Once returning to civilian life, he became gainfully employed in the City of Pittsburgh's booming industrial steel mills.  He worked at Shenango Inc, Neville Island, Pennsylvania until retiring in 1979.

He met married Avery Joan McArthur June 15, 1968.  Tom and Avery had a daughter, Michelle Rene West, Michelle was never raised as an only child because the West's opened their home to every child and adult that needed love, parenting and nurturing.

In his spare time Tom enjoyed bowling and bowled in several leagues.  Among his favorite teams were The Duquesne Dukes and the Trouble Markers which bowled out of the North Versailles Bowling Alley.  Whenever the teams would travel, Tom would be sure to there to enjoy the fun.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George A. West.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Avery Joan (McArthur) West, daughter Michelle West; three grandsons; Cassel, Collin, and Caleb West all of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one sister, Marion West Edmonds of McDonald, Pennsylvania; three brothers, Harold Patterson, Tennessee; Clarence (Ruth) West, Texas; Richard (Judy) West, Las Vegas Nevada; and a host of people that so lovingly call him "Pop" or "Dad" together with nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
