Mattie Evelyn Youngblood was born on November 8, 1929 in Union Springs Alabama. She was the eldest daughter born to the late Eugene and Iola King. She was united in Holy Matrimony to her (Toosie) Oscar Youngblood on April 14, 1945. They moved to Akron, Ohio then settled in Pittsburgh, Pa. There they continued to multiply and multiply and multiply. They bore and raised 11 children, 8 boys and 3 girls. However, they kept their home opened to friends and family throughout their entire lifetime. Together they were “Dada” and “Mudea”(short for mother dear) to many.

Mattie also known as “Sister” wore many hats, all of which required a helping hand and an open heart. As a young midwife she assisted with delivering babies, rendered service to Ellis hotel in the historic Hill District as a cook, and served in the healthcare field. Always persistent and determined she was a lover of learning and went back to school to get her G.E.D. She was excited and humbled to be an inspiration to the much younger students in her class.

Many would agree that they could forever call her house a home. She always had an open door, her home virtually filled to the brim, bubbling over with family, from her children’s friends and even their friends friends. All would also agree that her kitchen was the most familiar. You could be guaranteed to get the freshest press and curl(as long as you’d sit very still & hold your ears tight), and if you were in the right place at the right time you just might get a bowl of her coveted chicken and dumplings ,some of that infamous peach cobbler or her sought after pound cake.

At the age of 42 Mattie joined the neighborhood sanctified church and sent her children to Sunday school faithfully. It was then that she realized that she wanted a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She devoted her life time to spreading the Gospel and answered the call to become a pastor of the Lord Jesus Christ. As the founder and late pastor of Faith Mission Church Inc. for over 30 years she preached the word in season and out of season and didn’t sugar coat a thing. She didn’t mind cooking for those who needed a meal or offering a bed to those who did not have a home. Even though she didn’t have much, she had a whole lot to give. Her heart’s desire was to see souls saved. Even when fire destroyed Faith Mission Church Inc, where she served as pastor she continued to keep the Faith, having church in her home and inviting all who would listen to hear a little bit more about Jesus.

Mattie was adored and treasured by many. She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Iola King, her husband Oscar Youngblood Sr. as well as her son’s Leon Youngblood and Pervis Youngblood. She leaves to celebrate her life her children: six sons, Oscar (Sandy) Youngblood Jr., Clarence (Debbie) Youngblood, Lloyd Youngblood, Jimmy Dean Youngblood, Dewayne Youngblood and Terry Youngblood; three daughters, Debbie (David) Youngblood-Knight, Regina (Robert) Marshall and Annise Youngblood. Her siblings Eugene King, John (Osie) King, George (Marilyn) King, Willie (Eva) King, Henry (Roberta) King, Gennie K. Barker, Edith(Albert) Mobley, Maxine Surles, Eddie K. Floyd, 45 grandchildren, 81 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and a world of friends.
