I was saddened to hear of Barbara's passing. As a friend and co-worker during the UCEP years, I watched her use her talents and skills as a platform to encourage others with educational challenges to excel and pass their experiences on to serve our communities. I admired her intellect and quiet dignity and feel honored to have shared a time in her life.

Prayers and blessings are sent to Ron, children and the Lamar-Porter family to help ease your pain and comfort you during your loss.

To the Lamar-Porter family:
Barbara had a very positive influence in my early years at the University of Pittsburgh while we were co-workers in UCEP. As time went on, I got to know her on a personal level and we became friends. I will always remember her infectious smile and unique laugh. Although we lost touch after our years in UCEP, we would occasionally see each other on campus and stop to chat about what was going on in our lives and promise to "get together" for lunch. I regret that never happened but I thought of her often. She was a special lady and I will never forget her.

Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

May God bless and keep you.

I was very surprised to learn of Barbara's passing. She was very committed to the African-American undergraduates of Pitt in the 60s & 70s. May she rest in peace now.
