Mr. Wilmer D. (Rock) Tipton,
Sunrise: September 18, 1944-Sunset: August 21, 2025
Rock Tipton, age 80, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, peacefully transitioned from this life, on Thursday, August 21,2025.
Born on September 18, 1944, to the late Ivaline Tipton Wilborn, from whom he acquired his quick wit, (which was unmatched,) and strong personality lol.
Rock's primary education was in the Penn Hills school district, and at the young age of 19, while residing in the city of New York, he matriculated to the United States Air Force, where he was trained as an Instrument Maker and Instrument Repairman. He held the rank of SGT.
After leaving the military, Rock worked as a General Manager for one of the big box stores.
But his passion for music was ever burning in his spirit. Rock started playing guitar at around age 13, self-taught. He had an ear and gift for music. Rock was an accomplished lead guitarist, and Phenomenal Vocalist. He was one of the founding members of “Third World Revolution's" house band that was revered throughout Washington D.C. Maryland, and the Virginia area,
His skills as a lead guitarist have graced the stage with many, such as The Spinners, Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes. Phoebe Snow, and more.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Deaconess Ivaline Tipton Wilborn,
his daughter Rasheeda Kenyatta Tipton, grandson D’Andre Carpenter,
Brothers: Charles Tipton, James Tipton, George Tipton, Wylie Wilborn, Bruce Wilborn
Sister: Sheila Livingston.
He leaves to cherish his memory his eldest brother, Ronald Tipton of Maryland, sister Sharon Greene Colbert (Roderick) of Pittsburgh, and Ivy McGowan of Exton Pa.
As well as a host of Special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special appreciation to Dion, Umi, Richard, and Heather for being wonderful caregivers.
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death Shall be no more,
Neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain.
