In Loving Memory of William Albert Smith, Jr.
September 8, 1951 – July 2, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William Albert Smith, Jr., who departed this life on July 2, 2025, at the age of 73. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor, and friend, William lived a life marked by integrity, passion, and unwavering dedication to his community and family.
Born on September 8, 1951, William, or Pidge as he was affectionately known, was a proud graduate of George Westinghouse High School. His thirst for knowledge led him to attend both Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, where he continued to grow not only academically but as a man committed to making a difference.
In 1970, William took a defining step in his life by becoming a member of the illustrious Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., an organization that reflected his lifelong dedication to leadership, service, and the upliftment of others.
William had a love for sports that ran deep. For over 25 years, he served as an official in both baseball and basketball, earning the respect and admiration of players, coaches, and fellow officials alike. Outside the lines, he was an avid bowler and golfer, a lover of music from all genres, and a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan—black and gold through and through.
But more than anything, William believed in the power of people, especially in the promise of our youth. A strong advocate for mentoring, he dedicated his time, heart, and wisdom to helping young people grow into their fullest potential. Whether through youth sports or quiet one-on-one conversations, he had a gift for uplifting others, always leading with compassion and purpose.
To his family, William was the heart of every gathering, cherishing every moment together—no matter the activity. His presence was steady, his laughter unforgettable, and his love unwavering.
William is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Correne; his daughter, TaTanisha; his son, Glenn; his cherished grandson, Julian; his brother, Gregory, and sister-in-law, Geraldine; his sisters -in-law Jacqueline, Edna, Rochelle, Denise, Chandra, and Brenda; his brothers-in -law Harold and James; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
William Albert Smith, Jr. leaves behind a legacy of compassion, wisdom, and service. Though he may be gone from our sight, he will never be gone from our hearts.
