William Lincoln Banner, the fourth of six children, was born on February 11, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late John Matthew and Gussie Allen Banner. He transitioned from this life to life eternal on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
William was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System and graduated from George Westinghouse High School in 1946. At an early age he joined Grace Presbyterian Church where he was a member for many years. William served in the United States Army during the Korean War for two years, 1950 through 1952. After discharge William worked fifty years in security, starting with PNC Bank in Homestead, followed by Carnegie Library and ending his career after serving as lieutenant in the Housing Authority (HACP) Police Department. Early in life William married the late Ruth Smith and to that union four children were born, Robert, Rene, Lisa and David, all of whom preceded him in death.
In 1971, William was united in marriage to Ruby C. Glenn Adams at which time he became stepfather to Kimberly and Patricia Adams. In addition to his parents and children, William was preceded in death by two brothers, John K. and Harold S. Banner and three sisters Lucille Banner, Elaine J. Mason and Marion A. Woodfork. He leaves to mourn his loss; his loving and devoted wife Ruby Christine, two stepdaughters, Patricia (Charles) Young and Kimberly Leonard, two granddaughters Tunisha Dobbs and Faithe Griffin, five step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, eight step-great grandchildren.
