Walter Sinclair Lewis

Walter Sinclair Lewis, 77, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on February 26, 2026, at UPMC Hospital in Monroeville, PA. Walter, better known as Walt, was born on January 24, 1949, to Kenneth and Beulah Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Leona A. Grigsby, and his niece, Robin Lynne Grigsby.

After his graduation from Westinghouse High School in 1966, Walt enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for four years before his Honorable Discharge. He was proud of the many awards and recognition of his service, as he traveled to many places in the U.S. and overseas. 

Walt was a spiritual soul who possessed hidden talents only few knew about. As a teenager in church, Walt was frequently called upon to recite poems or name all the books of the Bible for various church programs. He also wrote poetry. Walt's favorite pastime was singing hymns or songs from the 1960's. He especially liked the songs by the "Temptations", and he didn't need to have instrumental accompaniment. He was also a very good dancer.

Walt was generous to a fault and believed that his personal ministry was to help anyone in need. He trusted everyone who befriended him. His joyful spirit will be missed, but his goodness will be remembered by those who loved him and knew him well.

Although Walter did not have any children of his own, he treated all children as his. He leaves to mourn his sister, Janice (Robert) Elliott, his brother, Martin (Cynthia) Lewis, his niece, Lisa Elliott of Maryland, his nephews, Mark Elliott of Texas, and Lee (Gwen) Grigsby of Washington, DC, and a host of cousins and other relatives.
