Victoria Laverne-Marie Young

Mrs. Victoria Laverne Marie Jones, daughter of the late Cecil Raymond Jones and the late Sarah Lillian Everett was born on August 27, 1960, in Pittsburgh, PA. “Vicky” as she was affectionately called was the 3rd Child and the Eldest Daughter of 5 siblings.

Vicky matriculated through her education in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, Connelly Technical Institute and graduated from Westinghouse High School in the Class of 1979. It was there in sewing class that she was able to find her passion and gift as a Seamstress. She had the ability to look at a “Simplicity” pattern and recreate the garment of clothing without measuring. She would spend hours on her sewing machine with needles, thread, bobble, measuring tape, and those red tomato pin choices. As she continued to hone her craft as a Seamstress, she created many designs from baby blessings dresses to prom dresses, and eventually worked in the East Liberty Tuxedo store doing bridal fittings and tuxedo tailoring.

She was united in holy matrimony to Army Specialist Edward Benjamin Young, in August of 1988. From this union, Vicky and Ed were blessed with two boys, Desmond Nathaniel Young, and Keenan Edward Young. Edward preceded her in death on October 31, 1995, and was laid to rest with honors in St. Peters Cemetery as a Vietnam Veteran.

Mrs. Young was active in the community caring for young children and seniors, many she cared for in her home. She was a woman of faith and befriended everyone she met. While short in stature, she made up for it with a big voice and an even bigger heart to comfort and care for all who entered her presence. She quietly departed this life on July 10, 2023, in the presence of her siblings and family. She is preceded in death by her grandfather Marshall L. Everett, Father Cecil Jones, Mother Sarah Everett-Taylor, Brother Jeffrey Everett, and Uncle William Everett.

Her beautiful life will be cherished by her sons, and her three remaining siblings: Hakeem Muhammad, Denise Jones, and April Y. Cunningham (Darrell) of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Two handsome grandsons: JaSiah Lamar Young and Ky’mere JayCeon Edward Sherrill and a beautiful granddaughter Skylar Renee Young-Luckey, all of whom she loved and cherished. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
