Victor Gray Obituary

Victor Major Gray suddenly departed this earthly life at home with his loving wife at his side on February 7, 2021., after a short illness. He was born to Demorose and Linda Gray on February 18, 1949, in Cocoa Beach, Florida. The family moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, when he was at an early age.

He attended Lychee Elementary School in the Hill District and Fifth Avenue Junior and Senior High School.  He was inducted into the United States Marine Corps and fought in the Vietnam War, 3rd Marine Division, from 1963 to1966 where he became a Sergeant in Grade E5 and received several medals.

He became a paper carrier to pay his tuition at Duff's Business Institute where he majored in Business Management. He was then employed by Armco Steel until the company went out of business. He obtained employment at the department is Veteran Affairs  Healthcare Service in 1971 as a housekeeper and promoted to Environmental management Services supervisor where he served for 30 years until he retired in December 2012

He was a faithful member of the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Building Committee for a period. Victor loved his family, was very protective and caring of his wife, and encouraging and supportive of his grandchildren. A fun-loving guy, quite a handyman, and an AVID Steeler's fan, he loved gardening, grilling, fishing, swimming, bike riding, feeding the ducks, and just sitting on the front porch. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and kept up to date on the news.

Preceded in death by his parents Demorse and Linda Gray, siblings Melvin Gray and Gray, and daughter Victoria Turner, he is lovingly remembered by his wife, Myrtle; siblings Associate Pastor Jeanette Gray and Reginald (Renee) Coleman; three step-children: Vincent Taylor, Christine King, Arthur Godson IV; six grandchildren: Kacey Turner, Spec. Anna Carnegie, Tarique Godson, Sgt. Taylor White, Vaughhn McClellan, Jr., and Cameron Taylor; three great-grandchildren: Angelina McClellan, Savina McClellan and Ayara Sage Godson; and a host of relatives and friends.
