Valinn Juan “Bobo” Carey, 64, of Pittsburgh, peacefully departed this life on April 28, 2026. He was born on February 19, 1962, in Pittsburgh. Surrounded by the love of family and friends throughout his life, Bobo leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, laughter, and faith.
Bobo was a proud graduate of Carrick High School, Class of 1981, where he excelled as a middle linebacker for the Carrick Raiders. His athletic ability and dedication earned him All-American honors while playing in the All-City League. He later attended Lincoln University, graduating in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree and a minor in Mathematics. While at Lincoln University, he earned recognition in the Hall of Fame for recording the most tackles as a linebacker for the Blue Tigers.
After completing his education, Bobo participated in ROTC and faithfully served in the United States Army and Army Reserves. Throughout his life, he worked many jobs and took pride in being hardworking, dependable, and supportive of his loved ones.
Bobo was a devoted member of American Legion Post 715, where he actively participated in meetings and community parades. He enjoyed fishing, watching football, and spending precious time with family and friends. He was a true people person whose smile, conversation, and presence could light up any room. He embraced life wholeheartedly and cherished every moment God blessed him with.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Corrine Brailsford; his father, Tyrone Hardgrove; his mother, Carlotta Jean Carey; and his brother, Ernest Carey.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his children, Valinn Chester Milligan, Anitra Carey, and Erinn Carey; his stepchildren, Howard and Ebony Palmer, and Terrance and Lachell Pickens; his siblings, Morrow (Wanda), Darnell (Tonya), DuWayne (Tracey), Kimberly, Tracey (William) Benson, and Yolanda (Paul) Mollett; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and his special friend, Heather Jackson.
