Treva Jean Young

Treva Jean Young affectionately known as “Ms. T” aka “Grandma:” was born on July 15, 1952 in McKeesport PA. to the late James L. Young and Lennis A. Taylor.

She grew up in West Elizabeth PA. She later moved to Clairton PA. where she would go on to begin her family. A lot of her years were spent living in Belle Vernon PA. (Arnold City) Where she was a member of Antioch Baptist Church for many years. She then moved to Homestead PA. where she became a member of Park Place AME church. At the time of her death, she resided in West Mifflin PA.

Treva attended Thomas Jefferson High School. She later went on to complete computer programming school. Throughout her life she held many different positions that accentuated her passion for life. She was employed at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, she was the first black cashier at the Belle Vernon Foodland, she was a general manager for both McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken. She also displayed her love and talent for cooking at many local establishments. She was the owner of Ms. T’s Market in Homewood for many years.

Treva enjoyed games of chance such as Bingo, playing cards and casino games. If you were to ask Treva what her biggest attribute was she would have lovingly told you it was her children, grandchildren and her great grandchildren, she loved her family. Treva was affectionately known as a mother figure to many in her community.

Treva departed this life on January 31, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was proceeded in death by both her parents, her brother Monroe N. Young and her husband Isaac J. Laidley and her Godson James Lippencott.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Twanna Pace, Kiesha McCoy and Carmella Green. Her Grandchildren: Whitney, Cyria, Randi, Lawana, Avery and Jameilah. Her great grandchildren: Quadir, Z’Nyria, Jayden, Rahmon, Amirah, Zymir and Darren Jr. Her niece and nephew, Keelyn and Tyler Young. Her fiancé Kevin Sommerville. Her Goddaughters LaTonya Davis and Kiesha Anderson and a host of family and friends.
