Susie Marie Croumbles

Susie Marie Croumbles, the eldest of six children, was born on August 25, 1931, in McClellanville, South Carolina, to the late John S. and Annie F. Weston. Susie departed this life on Sunday, June 9, 2024, after a long illness. Susie and her family moved to the Garfield section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System, completing her education at Peabody High School. Susie met and married David E. Croumbles on January 31, 1953. To this union, four children were born: twin daughters Marva and Marsha, her only son David, and daughter Michelle.

Susie accepted Christ at a young age and was a lifelong member of St. James AME Church. She served as a member of the Willing Workers Club and Women’s Usher Board #1 for many years. Susie worked at Presbyterian University Hospital in her early years before moving on to work for the VA Hospital in Oakland as a nursing assistant, where she retired after 29 years of service. After a few years of retirement, she worked part-time at Life Care Hospital in Wilkinsburg and Grainger Assisted Living Center in Penn Hills. Susie loved helping and taking care of others and helped care for her daughter Marva for many years during her illness. Susie loved cooking, baking, dancing, gardening, and bowling. She was a member of a bowling league for many years. She cherished her children, grandchildren, and family.

Susie was preceded in death by her daughter Marva L. Brooks, husband David Croumbles, brother John “Bubba” Weston, and sisters Sylvia Allen and Pauline Johnston and son-in-law Theodore Brooks. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children: Marsha (William) Holmes, David Croumbles and daughter-in-law, Dyanne Croumbles, and Michelle (Channing) Buefort; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister Joanne Baker; brother-in-law Garrett Baker of Lima, Ohio; and sister Florence “Vivian” Haynes of Lima, Ohio; as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews
