Stephen Fulwylie Obituary

Stephen H. Fulwylie Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted friend was born May 29, 1949. Steve was born the second oldest of three brothers to Fredricka and DeLos Fulwylie of Penn Hills, PA. Steve was born and raised in Penn Hills where he met his beloved wife, Amelia. Steve and Amelia attended Penn Hills High School together and graduated with the class of 1967. They were married on February 14, 1972. Out of this loving union was born their son Stephen Jr. After high school Steve attended Connelley Trade School which is where he began his training as a heavy equipment operator. For his career he worked as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for companies such as Amoco Oil and PJ Dick before starting his very own company Fulwylie Construction. Since 2001, he was a member of the International Operating Engineers Local 66. Steve also was a proud semi-truck owner who took pride driving and maintaining his trucks and equipment. He also built many structures such as decks and retaining walls. His wide range of skills and knowledge always allowed him the opportunity to make a good living and provide for his family. It became very apparent at a young age that Steve had a deep passion for automobiles. It was rare that he was not out at the dragstrip, a car cruise, or out and about in one of his hot-rods. He was a true legend within the car and racing community here in the Pittsburgh area. Every vehicle that he owned he knew from the inside out. Steve’s mechanical expertise made him a sought-after consultant from far and near. He was a fixture at Pittsburgh International Dragway (PID) and Keystone Raceway locally in Southwestern PA. From partnering with his childhood friend David Greene lighting up the dragstrip in the Pittsburgh area, to touring the states with his big brother Pete Fulwylie and Fulwylie Motorsports, setting track records in the Pro Modified drag racing class. He always made sure that his mark was left at every racetrack he graced his presence with. Steve found joy and solace in spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. His family is what he lived for and that’s what drove him daily to give everything that he had. Steve was the proudest father and grandfather, and he would tell everybody he could about his family. Always a guy to make new friends wherever he went and loved to help people. He was the epitome of a “people person”. As we mourn his passing, we much more celebrate his life and the legacy he has passed on. Steve departed this life at home on January 2, 2025. Steve was preceded in his passing by his mother and father Fredricka and DeLos Fulwylie, his wife Amelia, brothers, DeLos “Pete” and Richard “Diki”. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his only son, Stephen (Christina) Fulwylie Jr; grandchildren, Stephen A. and Amelia A. Fulwylie; brother, Rod Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. He will be sorely missed for his love towards family and friends and his legacy of love and support will continue on.
