Sondra Scott-Pattillo Obituary

Sondra Jean Scott-Pattillo, age 68, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 12, 2026, surrounded by loved ones in her hometown.

Born on August 14, 1957, on the East Side of Pittsburgh, Sondra lived a full life that took her to Baltimore, Maryland; Falls Church, Virginia; and Durham, North Carolina, before she eventually returned to her beloved Pittsburgh roots. Sondra dedicated many years to the hospitality industry, most notably with Marriott, where her warm personality and strong work ethic earned her respect from colleagues and guests alike.

Above all, Sondra was deeply passionate about raising her children and instilling in them a strong sense of self-dependence and valuable life lessons. She believed in teaching them to stand on their own two feet while always showing compassion for others. One example she often shared was how she encouraged her children to take on responsibilities early — whether it was managing their own chores, working part-time jobs as teenagers, or learning how to solve problems without giving up. She taught them that resilience and integrity were the foundations of a meaningful life.

Sondra also cherished her family deeply, especially the special bond she shared with her sisters. She loved spending quality time with them — laughing, sharing stories, cooking together, and supporting one another through every season of life. These moments with her sisters brought her some of her greatest joy. Additionally, Sondra shared a beautiful lifelong friendship with her best friend Bonnie Bishop. Their decades-long bond was filled with unwavering loyalty, countless heartfelt conversations, and a sister-like connection that remained a constant source of comfort and happiness throughout her life. She also shared a life long Bond with Rachel Bundy (DSD), Melissa Taylor, and LaNair Henderson.

She is survived by her ex- husbands, Henry O. Akinfe and Barton Pattillo; her children, Jerome Scott, Lawrence Scott, Manyell Akinfe-Reed, and Sallie Pattillo (DSD); her grandchildren, Dasez Scott, Zhalay Reed, Kiros Scott, Nirella Scott, and Ma’at Scott; and her siblings, Lawrence Scott, Kevin Scott, Joann Scott, Patrica Wheeler, Sharon Scott, Maveen Scott (DSD), and Chan Scott (DSD). She also leaves behind over 20 nephews and nieces that adored their “Aunt Sony” as she made sure was apart of everyone’s life individually. Her active engagement in their lives was meaning as a transformational figure in the Scott family.

A celebration of Sondra’s life will be announced by the family at a later date.

Sondra will be remembered as a kind, generous woman with a helping heart, a devoted mother, and someone who truly valued family and friendship.
