Soldon Bryant Winton was born on September 8, 1951. He was the son of the late Cora Mae Winston and Curtis Winston Sr. A devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. Soldon’s life was defined by his unwavering love for his family, his vibrant spirit, and the simple joys that brought him happiness. Soldon graduated from Westinghouse High School in Homewood, Pennsylvania, in 1971. During his high school years, he distinguished himself as an accomplished swimmer on the school’s swim team and discovered his passion for music as a drummer in the high school band—a love that would remain with him throughout his life. Following graduation, Soldon entered the workforce, spending time employed at UPS before beginning a remarkable 28-year career with Port Authority, where he worked as a skilled diesel mechanic and graphic designer. It was during his tenure at Port Authority that he met the love of his life, Mary Winton. Together, they began a beautiful new chapter in Jeannette, building a life centered on faith, love, and family. After retiring, Soldon devoted his time to the things he cherished most. He continued sharing his musical talents by playing drums with his band at various social events. He treasured traveling, hosting family gatherings, and faithfully attending his grandchildren’s commencements and school activities. One of his greatest pleasures was driving his bright yellow Camaro—a reflection of his bold personality and love for the open road. Above all, Soldon found his greatest joy in being surrounded by his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Mary Winton; his beloved children, Soldon Bryant Winton Jr., Monet Winton, Simone Winton, Gabriel Smith, Shandell Winton, Keshia Smith, Cody Smith (his nephew he raised as a son), and Ian Smith (his grandson he raised as a son); his loving sisters and brothers, Katherine Bailey, Henrietta Winton, Thomas Winton, Tyrone Winton, Terry Winton, and sister-in-law, Corrine Winton; and He was also blessed with a host of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren who brought immeasurable joy to his life. In addition, he leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Joseph Jackson, who was like a brother to him. Soldon departed this life on February 17, 2026. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Cora Mae Denson Winton and Curtis Winton; his brothers, Curtis “Yanks” Winton Jr. and Ronald (Lee) Winton Sr.; his sisters, Patricia Winton and Hattie Sewell; and a number of cherished aunts and uncles. Soldon’s legacy is one of strength, love, rhythm, and loyalty. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on in the steady beat of a drum, the shine of a yellow Camaro, and the laughter of his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
