Shirley Ann Hendrix affectionately known to many as "Miss Shirley" was born on July 4, 1936, in Donora, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Rosa Ann Andrews and James Edward Mason. Shirley was raised in the Hill District community of Pittsburgh. She received her education in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and was a 1955 graduate of Fifth High School. Shirley was united in marriage to James Arthur Hendrix. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who nurtured and cared for her family throughout her life.
For many years, Shirley worked tirelessly as a community organizer where she encouraged others to become active in their community to help make their community a better place to live. Her most recent community involvement was working on the campaign trail to help get Mayor Ed Gainey elected. Shirley was a Christian and worshiped at Baptist Temple Church under the leadership of Senior Pastor Rodney Adam Lyde.
Shirley was known to always have an open door to help others and she continuously helped others as well as members of her own family. Shirley thoroughly enjoyed and loved spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren who brought so much joy into her life. She was a loving, kind, and caring lady who was a friend to all who knew her. She was a dedicated wife, mother, friend, and community leader. Shirley's mission in life was to help others.
Peacefully on July 27, 2023, in Dracula, Georgia Shirley transitioned from life on Earth to eternal rest. In addition to her parents, Rose Ann Andrews and Edward J. Mason, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Hendrix, brother, James Mason, daughter, Brenda Andrews, and grandson, Romney Snoe.
Shirley leaves to treasure her memory and legacy, her children, Charlene J. Snoe (Ronald), James K. Hendrix (Lita), Eugene K. Hendrix (Brenda); grandchildren, Shannel Givner (Dmon), Donte Martin, Andrea Jenkins, Ronald Snoe Jr. Alaia and KeYona Hendrix, Arielle, Janelle, Codi Hargraves, Renandre Snoe, Jeriah, Joy, Jairus Hendrix; great-grandchildren, Jurnee Jenkins and Aliyah Hyman, Donte Martin, Amia, Damian and Kareem Martin, Jezelle Railee, Laron West, Amir, and Ronald Snoe III. Shirley is also survived by 6 siblings, Denise Walker, Dereke Mason, and Dennis Mason, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will cherish her memory and greatly miss her presence.
