Shirley Ann Porter-English, Eastern Start Appointed Grand Matron, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023 at the age of 68. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at a young age.
Shirley was born in Montgomery, Alabama on January 17, 1955 to her loving parents Layett Sanders and Isaiah Porter (biological father is Billy Hill). Shirley from Westinghouse High School in 1974. Shirley had her first son and later married Reginald English and had two other children. Shirley pursued a number of different careers and passions with the most recent being AARP (located at Careerlinks). Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren held the honor of being the most important thing in her life.
Shirley Ann was a devoted Eastern Star, excellent dancer, and professional card player. She enjoyed shopping, going to the casino, hanging with some of her close friends (Anna, Angie, Gerald Pass, Toni, Virginia, Jaynell, Sheila, Deborah Ann, friends from the Douglas Apartments and many more) and was always the life of the party. She had an adventurous spirit, loved traveling, and enjoyed finding some trouble to get into. Shirley will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She is proceeded in death by her parents Layett and Isaiah; grandparents, Johnny and Mary; and great-grandchild, Geoci. Shirley is survived by her siblings; Jerone (Wendy) and Julious; children, Walter (Tonya), Shanna, and Jamal (Jessica) God children Tenesha and Ian Smith, nieces, Jean and Portia; nephew Dewayne; grandchildren, Shaila, Sharay, Siara, Walter, Shavon, Taneja, Zoe, Israel, Sha'Niya, Sa'Miya, Dior, Niko, and Lyricc; great-grandchildren, Zion, Zach, Devine Jr., Skylar, Kendalynn, Rayven, Anthony III, Louis Jr., Kassidy, and Avah.
