Sandra Rita Bankhead Guinn, daughter of the late Samuel and Helen Bankhead, was born on May 23, 1948, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She peacefully departed this life on May 22, 2026.
Sandra was an intelligent, compassionate, and generous woman whose gracious spirit and loving heart touched the lives of all who knew her. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering concern for others were hallmarks of her character.
Sandra began her education at Saint Benedict the Moor Elementary School and later attended Saint Raphael High School. She completed her secondary education at Schenley High School, graduating with the Class of 1967.
Following graduation, Sandra relocated to New York, where she pursued professional opportunities and gained valuable life experiences. Several years later, she returned to her hometown of Pittsburgh, where she welcomed her beloved daughter, Rita Bankhead.
In 1974, Sandra began her distinguished career with Blue Cross as a Customer Service Representative. Through her dedication, professionalism, and exceptional work ethic, she advanced within the organization and eventually served as an Operations Systems Analyst II with GuideWell. Her remarkable career spanned 50 years of faithful service with the company.
During her tenure at Blue Cross, Sandra met the love of her life, Mark P. Guinn. The two were united in marriage on August 16, 1981, and shared 44 years of love, partnership, and cherished memories until his passing.
In 2009, Sandra was diagnosed with blood cancer. Despite this challenge, she remained resilient and steadfast, never allowing her illness to diminish her joy for life or her ability to see the good in others. Her strength, optimism, and faith inspired those around her.
Sandra was truly one of the kindest and sweetest souls to grace this earth. Her light, love, and gentle spirit left an indelible mark on her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Sandra leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Rita Bankhead; her beloved grandsons, Shemsu Parks and Zoser Parks; her nieces, Vespera Barrow and Lynne Barrow; her nephews, Jason Barrow, Chinonso Umeh, and Michael Guinn; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Audry Guinn; and a host of extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will forever hold her in their hearts.
“Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.”
