With hearts full of love, we remember Ruth Wilma Smith, a beacon of strength and kindness who lived a life rich with love and laughter. Ruth went to her eternal home on December 28, 2024, at the age of 100. Born on August 28, 1924, in Westfield, Alabama, Ruth spent most of her adult life in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Wife of the late Dalton R. Smith, Jr., Ruth is survived by her 5 children: Albert (Nadine, late) Rembert, Michele Cotton, Dalton R. III (Jackie), Darryl D. (Barbara), and Nicole (Anthony) Middlebrooks. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Dolly and Tom Witherspoon, her brothers, Morgan, John and James Witherspoon, as well as her sister, Rebecca Arrington. Ruth, a wonderful mother who was always there for her family. When her children were grown, Ruth pursued a career in real estate; she was a successful, licensed agent for over 30 years. Her love for the Lord and passion for serving others was evident in how she lived her life and spent her free time. Ruth was extremely active in her church, Unity Lutheran, where she mentored children in the after-school program; during Lent, she could always be found working the fish fry, and she supported the church staff and members any way she was able - - a true servant leader. As the family matriarch, Ruth embraced the role of advisor, mentor and confidante to family and extended family alike. She was a true blessing to all those she met. As we gather to cherish the memories of Ruth, we are reminded of her remarkable century-long journey filled with compassion, resilience, and a zest for life
