Rudolph Saunders Obituary

Nathaniel Rudolph Saunders Jr, lovingly known as Rudy, was born July 15, 1935 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the son of the late Nathaniel R. Saunders and Elizabeth McCoy Saunders. He was the oldest of ten children. He attended Fifth Avenue High School. Rudy was taught a man does not eat if he doesn’t work; and Rudy started working at an early age. Rudy started working for Mobile Records driving, loading, and unloading trucks. He worked at Donahue Grocery Store loading and unloading trucks. For a period of time, he also worked for American Standard. After skilled trade school, Rudy worked for Westinghouse Electric Company which he retired after 35 years. After retirement, he continued to drive for BSC and he was a janitor at Monumental Baptist Church. Rudy was married twice; first marriage to Myrna Williams which they had two daughters; Rosalind and Kimberlee. Then Rudy married Minnie Mae Pipkin which they had three children: Sharon, Nathaniel (Nate), and Marisha (Peaches). Rudy was a true sports fan. Not only did he enjoy watching sports, he also enjoyed playing sports. Rudy played many sports, but his true passion was playing and watching baseball. He played on a traveling team The Sands that was managed by his father-in-law, Seneca Pipkin. While working for Monumental, Rudy became a member of the Monumental church family and most importantly accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Rudy wore many hats in his life: son, brother, husband, father, and most significant a child of God. May 31, 2018, we celebrate Rudy’s homegoing. He leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years, Minnie Saunders, his five children: Rosalind Taylor, Kimberlee Holiday, Sharon Elliott, Nate Saunders (spouse Deidre), and Marisha Mapp (spouse Trelaine); 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers and 2 sisters; and a host of relatives and friends who love him and will miss him greatly.
