Ruby Hairston was born February 21, 1929 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to loving parents, Edward and Bess Goodwin Robinson. She was the baby of the seven siblings. Her parents migrated to Pittsburgh where she was raised in Lawrenceville. They later moved and purchased a home on Enoch Street in the Hill District. She went to public schools Vann, Herron Hill, and Schenley High. Ruby had a love for bigband sounds where she became a jitterbug and danced in all the jazz clubs in Pittsburgh. She will be missed greatly by her children Gail McWhorter, Wanda Hairston-Stewart, and James A. Hairston, her three grands, Robert A. Vaughn Jr. Glenn L. Wayland Jr., and Amanda Porter-Hairston, and great-grandchildren, great nieces, and great-nephews. She fought hard in life and loved her family. We know she is at peace and will be missed by all.
