Roy Jason Banner was born in Newark, New Jersey, on April 4, 1946.
He was the son born to Virginia Walker and James Banner.
Raised by his grandparents, Henrietta and Wayne Cleveland, he moved to Pittsburgh at a young age. He attended the A. Leo Weil Elementary School and Fifth Avenue High School, graduating from Schenley High School in 1964.
Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force in
1965. At the end of his service, he worked at the Clara Maass Hospital near Newark and the steel mill in Pittsburgh. He dedicated the rest of his tenure to serving the houseless and less fortunate through entities such as the Allegheny Housing Rehabilitation Corporation, retiring 2017.
Roy met and married Cynthia White, and to this union three lovely sons were born: Mark Jason, Christopher Wayne, and Troy Jay Banner. They remained married until Cynthia passed in 2011.
Roy enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was the glue of the family- maintaining relationships with close and distant members; initiating connections, and sharing stories with all. He made it a point to support his family at every game, celebration, and event.
