Rosemary Carmen Carter

On January 12th, 2025, God called Rosemary Carmen Carter to her heavenly home. Rosemary was the last born of the late Mary Agnes Aggie and John Carter in Fairmont, West Virginia, on December 22nd, 1951. Mary Agnes was ill during Rosemary's birth and passed six months later. Rosemary was nurtured from 6 days of age to adulthood by the late Willie Mae Merrell.

Her early education started at Miller Elementary School in Fairmont, WV. Willie Mae relocated to Pittsburgh, where Rosemary attended Lincoln, Mckelvy, and Vann elementary schools. She attended Heron Hill Middle School and graduated from the late Shenley High School in 1968 with high honors at sixteen. 

She worked at Allegheny General Hospital as a nurse's aide, then furthered her education and became a surgical technician. She worked at Eye and Ear Hospital and, while there, enrolled in Computer Systems Institute. Upon completion, she obtained an associate degree in computer programming and became a certified accountant assistant. She went on to become a paramedic and worked for the city of Pittsburgh for four years and joined the army reserves where she was able to travel and become a nurse. She worked at the Highland Drive VA for 20 years and the Aspinwall VA for 2 years before early retirement from a work disability.

Praising the Lord was the love of her life. She was an active member of the Macedonian Baptist Church, where she worked with the youth in junior church and Sunday school. She converted to Catholicism in December 1982 and attended Our Lady Help A Christian Church of Pittsburgh, where she was an active choir singer. She migrated to Saint Benedict the Moor Church, where she was an active member in CCD, choir, lectoring, Christian Mothers, and volunteering. With them, she was provided the honor to sing in Rome for Pope John Paul II.

She also attended Saint James of Wilkinsburg, where she taught literature of the word. Later in life, she converted back to the Baptist faith and worshipped at Bethany Baptist Church as a full member and choir participant. Lastly, she was a rising member of the Shiloh Community Baptist Church. The Lord was her way of life.

Rosemary was known as Mom, Mommy, Rosie, Aunt Rosie, Rose, Nana Rose, and Miss Lavota's mom. She was respected and loved by a lot of family and friends. She loved to cook and could cook and bake out of this world, and she didn't mind sharing. She liked to travel and sew in her early years of life. She loved gospel music singing and playing cards. She loved children and would take care of them as if they were her own.

In addition to her parents, Rosemary is preceded in death by her Brother Sylvester Harris, sister Priscilla White, and nephew Troy White. 

She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories her daughter Lavota Carmen Carter of Pittsburgh and siblings Lavota Linear of Fairmont, WA, Edward Leroy Lee of Pittsburgh, and Janie Carter-Williams of Pittsburgh. She also leaves to hold her in fondness, a grand host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
