Rodney “RJ” Jones III Obituary

Our beloved Rodney Louis Jones III (RJ) of Penn Hills, took his own life in the early morning of Thursday, June 27th, 2019. He was 20 years old.
RJ was born in Wilkinsburg, Pa on August, 8th 1998. He leaves to mourn his Mother, Michelle (Cheeks) Nowlin, Biological Father, Rodney Jones II, Father, Kevin Nowlin, Grandmother Christine (Sheftz) Fisher, Grandfather, Richard Fisher, his sister Kailah Alexis Pierce, sister Sydni Taylor Jones, Sister Shania Jenene Jones, sister Cameil Hart, brother Julian Nowlin, and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends.
RJ’s Story:
RJ loved to be independent. As a baby he wanted to do things that he was not quite ready for. He walked at 9 months and was potty trained by the time he was a year. When he got to elementary school he was very hard on himself if he did not pick up on a task or an assignment right away. Everything he did, he gave it his all and when he did not succeed it was a crushing blow to his spirit.
Once RJ entered his teen years, he decided that he was ready to take on the world. He made every effort to become self sufficient. Rodney was not a sports fan, but he indulged his father Kevin by participating. In all actuality RJ preferred to do things that required technical skills. He enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together, he enjoyed building things, he often times would help his mom with projects around the house and always wanted something to do. In the winter he took it upon himself to shovel the neighbors driveways and helped anyone who needed a hand.
RJ was a very sensitive person who was easily and deeply wounded, he got angry when others were cruel and he made it a point to be everyone’s protector. He is often spoken of as being polite, a gentleman, well mannered.
RJ was very smart, resourceful, ambitious, and determined. His friends thought of him as cool, fun, hard working, and loyal. RJ thrived off of the closeness he formed in any relationship, he loved to be loved. He worked hard to figure out how to improve his circumstances, become the best person he could possibly be.
RJ had plans, goals and a family that loved him very much. RJ is now at rest, and we all will hold him close within us.
