In Loving Memory of Robert “Shoonie” Weidner – Lover of loud music, dessert, and The Three Stooges
March 13, 1966 - April 3, 2025
Rob passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, at home with his wife and daughter by his side. He was 59 years old, though in many ways, he never really grew up – and that was one of the best things about him. Though the world is a little quieter without him, we imagine he is somewhere out there, Van Halen blasting, and he’s cracking open a cold beer.
Rob was a man of many passions – listening to music (rock-n-roll, metal, oldies, and a soft spot for ABBA), Friday night music video marathons, WWII history, college football and anything sweet. He served honorably as the official Christmas cookie taste tester every December. He was a student of history, especially WWII, and could often be found reading books and watching shows about planes and tanks for hours, building and displaying his models and watching Inglourious Bastards over and over again. A true kid at heart, Rob was never the type to turn down a chance to jump on the trampoline, ride the roller coasters, and let the kids treat him like a jungle gym. At the same time, he was endlessly handy, single-handedly building sheds, decks, fire pits, and trellises (and anything else his wife requested) with his bare hands. He was the type of guy who would do anything for the people he loved and expect nothing in return.
He was a die-hard Three Stooges fan and, much to the dismay of his wife Stephanie, passed this love onto his daughter, Lexi, who promises to keep the tradition going.Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Rob graduated from Edinboro University with a master’s degree in counseling, and he served as a program supervisor at Pressley Ridge for 30 years, helping troubled youth.
Rob is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Weidner and Jeanne (Bubarth) Weidner, and his sister, Sue Zobb. He is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie, loyal daughter, Lexi, supportive stepmother, Marie Weidner, and devoted niece, Jackie Bracken (RJ), as well as brothers Joseph Weidner (Diana) and James Weidner (Anne) and a host of nieces, nephews, great- nieces, and great-nephews.
We are forever grateful to the people who offered their unwavering love, support, thoughts, and prayers for Rob throughout his illness, including the Sanders Family, the Leonard Family, Jackie Bracken, Marie Weidner, Josh Ferrell, and Cheryl Mosley.
Rob lived simply, laughed often, and loved deeply. He is already fiercely missed, and he will be remembered every time the stereo was too loud, the cookies are fresh from the oven, or someone says, “Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.”
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to cancer and Huntington’s disease research.
