Richard Gordon Carroll was born April 4, 1945, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Helen Carroll Hartsfield (Powell) and Gus Gianni. Richard was called home to his eternal rest on September 9, 2025. Richard, or “Sonny” as he was more affectionately known to his family and close friends, was raised along with his brothers, Glenn Carroll, Nicholas Carroll, Anthony Carroll, and only surviving sister, Maria Flowers (Edward) of Michigan. Richard lived in Pittsburgh, PA his entire life. He matriculated through the Central District Catholic High School system, graduating in 1962. He went on to join the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1965. Richard had a career as a machinist and retired in the early 2000s. His greatest life accomplishments were the blessed births of his two daughters, Danyullia “Danny” Barbett McGlory (Burchette) and Justina Dawn Watts (Carroll). He shared stories of how much he adored them from early years to adulthood. He was proud of the women they became and their accomplishments. Richard loved life and all its beauty. In his earlier years, he loved skydiving, swimming, biking, riding his Honda Cruiser motorcycle, birdwatching and smoking fine Cuban Cigars. Groundhog Day was a traditional celebration that he loved. In his senior years, he started a knife collection and sold them for sport. He was an avid reader and loved all kinds of books and music genres. Richard had a flair for the finer things in life. His clothes were custom-made and well-maintained. Richard was a spiritual person and spent a lot of time meditating. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Danyullia “Danny” Barbett McGlory (Burchette) and Justina Dawn Watts (Daniel); his grandsons, Dion Christian McGlory, Cian and Arlo Watts, granddaughter, Diana Nicole McGlory and his great-grandson, Judah Simar Parms, in addition to a host of nieces and nephews.
