Raymond Gregory Burke was the first son of Ivory Allen and Raymond Burke Sr. Born on September 25, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Gregory attended Columbus School and then Langley High school where he was a star pitcher the Langley Mustang. After graduation he attended the University of Pittsburgh and then enlisted in the United States Army. Gregory served proudly in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1975. After army life Gregory followed in his father’s footsteps and worked for Penn Central Railroad for several years as a fireman. He was then employed at the veteran’s administration as a therapist and after 37 years of dedicated service he retired in 2020. Gregory received many awards for his service to his fellow veterans.
In June 1981, Raymond met and married Denise Anthony and after ten years of marriage this union was blessed with two children, Raymon and Elizabeth. Gregory loved his children and enjoyed every moment spent with them. He supported Raymon during his little league baseball games and while he ran track for Central Catholic. He also supported Elizabeth for ten years every Saturday taking her to Wilson School of Dance. He was a great and loving father.
Gregory had many activities during his lifetime that he so enjoyed; he was an excellent tennis player and loved the game for many years. But most of all Gregory was an enormous fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers never missing a game.
Sadly, in 2019 Gregory was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and despite his determination he departed this life on July 2, 2022. He was preceded in death his parents, two siblings, Laverne Burke and Brian Burke.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Denise Anthony; children Raymon Burke (Kara), Elizabeth Burke (Matt Troy); siblings, Marilyn Boyd and Bruce Burke; and a host of nieces, nephews’, other relatives and friends.
