Percy Chapman, Sr., departed this life for eternal rest peacefully on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the age of 75. Percy was the youngest of eight children born to the late William Arthur Chapman, Sr., and the late Cora Ann Chapman, from Carnegie, PA. Percy was married to the late Janice Louise Chapman. Percy was a quiet hard-working man, who provided for his family and made sure they wanted for nothing. He was employed with Herbick & Held Printing Company for 17 years and retired as a bus driver with Port Authority Transit with over 20 years of service. June 1, 1968, was one of the most important moments in Percy’s life. He married his best friend, companion of 47 years, and true love, Janice. Together, they partied, traveled, enjoyed family and friends, and adored one another until she departed in October 2015. You never saw one without the other; she was his pillar. Percy loved '60s music, particularly Aretha Franklin, watching baseball, Syfy, western movies, and his Steelers. But most of all, Percy loved a delicious meal, whether he prepared it himself or ate at a fine restaurant. Percy was an excellent cook and knew how to make a plain deli sandwich look like a gourmet meal. Percy was very meticulous about things, particularly, his appearance-cleaner than the board of health! Percy was ALWAYS sharp, even in a uniform. Percy never met a stranger. He was always kind, and generous (to a fault), and everyone who met him always thought he was such a wonderful, nice person. After the passing of his wife Janice, Percy lived in the Maryland area for five years before returning home to Pittsburgh. While in Maryland, he made many friends and fond memories. Percy had a 75th birthday party earlier this year and he TRULY enjoyed everyone who was able to attend. He was so touched and felt loved. If he did not remember anything else in his final days, he remembered his party. Percy leaves to cherish his memory, his three children, Tamara Chapman-Praytor (Michael), Percy Chapman, Jr. (Janene), and Jason Chapman (Twanda). Beloved grandfather of fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Percy is survived by three siblings. Joseph C. Chapman (Virginia), Doris Bailey, and Raymond Chapman, Sr. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Pastor Sharon Jackson-Quarles (Robert), Terri Harris, Tanya Todd, and brother-in-law William McClendon-Porter. Preceded in death by his brother Rev. William A. Chapman, Jr., and his late wife Inez Chapman; Armond B. Chapman and his late wife Jacqueline P. Chapman; his brother Robert E. ‘Tony’ Chapman and his sister Celestine ‘Sadie’ Turner. Percy’s late mother-in-law Lily Mae Wilcox; his brothers-in-law Darryl McClendon and Carl McClendon; his sisters-in-law Renee Marshman (Raymond) and Natalie Johnson. Percy is also survived by his Aunt Virley Dickerson, his niece Judy A. Lynn, and his nephew Gaylord Turk. Percy will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
