Paul Jacobs, Jr. Obituary

Paul Jerome Jacobs, Jr., son of the late Paul Jacobs, Sr., and Elzena Glen Jacobs, was born August 8, 1949, in Buffalo, NY. He attended schools in the Lackawanna and Buffalo public school systems, graduating from Bennett High School in Buffalo.

Paul began his pursuit of a college education but became drafted into the Armed Forces almost immediately after receiving his A.A.S. in Computer Science from Niagara County Community College. Some of his fondest memories were the time served in the United States Air Force for 7 1/2 years. He completed four years active service in Germany, and the remainder in the reserve. He received an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Technical Sergeant. After his service he attended the University of Buffalo and received a B.S. in Accounting.

At an early age Paul professed his faith in Jesus Christ, eagerly attending Sunday School and services at Second Baptist Church. After his service in the military, he became a member of St. John Baptist Church, where he was a trustee and a member of the United Voices Choir. He started up the St. John United Federal Credit Union where he was the office manager and treasurer.

Before leaving Buffalo, NY, Paul was the Head Coach for the Buffalo Vets 105 lb. Division in the Erie County Junior Football League in which the team won the league Championship 6 years in a row. To this day, the team still acknowledges the character traits he instilled in them as youth.

Paul moved to Pittsburgh, PA where he became a member of the Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church in East Liberty. He joined the Mass Choir and Male Chorus, and his powerful singing voice could be heard throughout the church. In 1987, he united in holy matrimony to Cynthia Hairston. While married for 34 years, they were blessed to be the proud parents of two daughters.

While a member, Paul became a Dave Ramsey’s Certified Workplace Trainer, and a Servant leader of the Dollars and Sense Ministry. Paul taught Financial Peace University classes at Rodman and the surrounding community. He was instrumental in starting “Kids’ Bank” and the “Teens Investment Club of Pittsburgh” to educate youth about finances and investing.

Paul worked as an Information Technology Consultant for several corporations, including Westinghouse, Bayer, Respironics, and Cognizant. Paul retired from corporate America and because of his love of travel, became a certified travel advisor and owner of Next Chapter Travel, LLC. He traveled throughout the U.S. as well as Canada, Dubai, Mexico, Hawaii, and islands in the Caribbean.

Over the past three years, Paul became a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church and willingly accepted the call to serve as a Board Member of Mercy Acts International. This was Paul’s last assignment from God before taking his final trip to his heavenly home.

Many will cherish their memories of Paul, especially his wife Cynthia; his daughters Chanelle and Gabrielle; his brothers James, John (Norma), David (Maxine), Darryl,

his aunts Mary Ricks-Stephens and Delores Smith, nieces Tracey, Keshia, Jhaakira, and Giselle, nephews Michael and Nigel, cousins, and friends.
