Patricia was an avid reader; she had a library full of books. She also loved traveling and her career. She always said her one dream was to attend college and receive an advanced degree. Academic achievement was more important to her than anything else.
She began her professional career at Magee Women’s Hospital as secretary to the Director of Nursing for 6 yrs. She left Magee to work for Gulf Oil Corporation for 3 yrs. She went from Gulf Oil to Westinghouse Electric Corporation in 1965 as a secretary; was later promoted to executive assistant and received an award for “Outstanding Achievement.” She retired from Westinghouse in 2000 after 30 yrs. of service. After retiring from Westinghouse, she worked at Gateway Middle School for 6 years.
Patricia had a great gift for getting other people jobs. She made such a good impression that she was asked multiple times if she knew anyone else like herself that she would recommend for a job, and she always recommended her sister, Olivia, and several other good friends.
She married Eldridge L. Kimbrough in 1965 and from that union she brought into the world her only child, Eldridge Lanier Kimbrough II. Her son was her pride and joy.
Patricia joined Wesley Center AME Zion Church as a young girl under the leadership of Bishop Charles H. Foggie, and remained a loyal member there as did her mother and sister. She shared a special relationship with her sister, Olivia, they were best friends and confidants. They loved to travel to Atlantic City and Las Vegas to play the slots at the Casinos. They were accompanied by friends and relatives where they had great times together sharing stories and life experiences.
Patricia was very devoted to her mother and when she became ill, assisted her sister, Olivia, in taking care of their mother until she passed away in 1994. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Alice Willa Bell (Mooney) Hallums and Charles Hallums, and her brother, Nathaniel Burgess Hallums. Patricia leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Eldridge Lanier Kimbrough II, a beloved daughter-in-law Melissa Kimbrough; a sister, Alma Olivia (Hallums) Goudelock, a brother-in-law, Fred Goudelock; a surrogate sister, Celeste (Toni) Wiley, a host of very special cousins and friends, and her soon to be grandson, Eldridge Lanier Kimbrough III.
