Migenett (neé Winbush) Pope, better known as “Midge” was born in Pigs Ear, PA on September 24th 1945 to the late Earl B. Johns and Laura Keen-Winbush. She departed this temporal life and entered eternal life on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Midge was preceded in death by her mother Laura, Father Earl, brothers Lloyd, Leroy, Walter, Calvin Winbush and Lawrence Davis; sisters Rosie Keith and Alberta Berniece Middleton.
Midge was the fifth of 12 children. She graduated from Westinghouse High School and later earned an Associates Degree from Point Park College as well as CCAC, Boyce Campus. Midge used her education to serve as a tax preparer with H&R Block. While hanging out with friends at a local bowling center, Midge met and later married Arthur Lee Pope Sr. Together, Midge and Arthur Lee had 5 children, sons Arthur Lee Pope Jr. (Mimi) and Radford Alton Pope (Leslee); daughters, Tracy Annette Pope, Patricia Jean Jackson (Wilson), and Carmen Renee Turack (Jaymie). Midge’s youngest daughter, Laura Louise Dennis is from another union.
Midge lived much of her life quietly; she wasn’t much of an adventurous person only traveling out of state just a few times. Midge enjoyed crossword puzzles, word search puzzles, National Geographic stories, watching the news, listening to talk shows on the radio and typing academic papers. She loved her coffee or tea, maple-nut goodies, and Fig Newtons as her all-time sweet treats but she loved her some Kentucky Fried Chicken! Midge moved around in the city living in communities from the north side to the east of Pittsburgh serving and supporting her immediate family.
Midge leaves to mourn her passing: Her loving sistersSabirah Khabir-nazir and Gertrude Hurt; brothers Dwayne Winbush and Thomas Bernard Winbush, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews in addition to her legacy of her six children before-mentioned, nineteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
