Michelle Goins Obituary

Michelle Rene Goins was born March 16, 1959 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late George Lee Holman and Courtney Senior. Upon the untimely death of her mother she was raised by her grandmother Willie Holman, with her Aunts Cornelia Williams and Dorothy Higgs taking an active role in her upbringing.

At an early age, Michelle accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Baptist Temple Church, Homewood, PA. Michelle was educated in the Pittsburgh Public Schools at Baxter and Westinghouse High School. She began her work career at Edgar Thomas Steel Mill in Braddock, PA in the early 1980s. Upon the decline of the Steel Industry in Pittsburgh, she went on to pursue her passions of catering and food service. One of her proudest catering moments was catering her daughter's entire wedding in 1996. She was also a proud member of the Duquesne University Dining Services team where she formed many life-long friendships. She took a special interest in making sure students that were far away from their families had access to meals regardless of their financial hardships Michelle later joined the Centers for Rehab Services team working as a Physical Therapy Aide at UPMC Montefiore/Presbyterian Hospitals. She loved helping and interacting with people in her role there.

Michelle affectionately known to many as "Granny" was a true people person; she never met a stranger. She often took people in under her wing and they eventually became family. Michelle loved family and she had no casual acquaintances, if you were "in" she considered you family.

Michelle loved and was extremely devoted to her daughter and grandchildren. She also loved spending time with family, cooking, playing bingo, attending family events, supporting the youth in the family, studying the bible, watching Joel Olsteen, Gospel Music and all shades of the color purple.

She expanded her love of the bible and the Lord, by enrolling in Harty Bible School and she proudly graduated in 2006.

Michelle departed this life peacefully and surrounded by family on July 10, 2020.

Michelle was preceded in death by her dear brother Tyrone Holman.
