Mason Murray Obituary

Mason Murray Jr. was born in Morgantown, WVA on January 18, 1977, to
Sharon and Mason Murray, Sr. Later, that year Mason and family moved
to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where his dad worked for U.S. Steel.
Mason was employed by BME Transit and later J & R Transit, as a school
bus driver, entrusted with the care of many children.
Mason was united in marriage to Amber McDonough and to this union two
sons Mason III and Tyson were born.
Mason at an early age was committed to sports. As a young child, he was
a Cub Scout. He also played soccer at the age of four (4), played baseball
and basketball, but his passion was football. Mason played for the Penn
Hills Midget Football Association (PHMFA), starting out on the Braves.
He later played for Penn Hills Jr. High.
Mason attended and graduated from Penn Hills High School, as a star
running back playing football. After graduation, he attended Kuntztown
University in Kuntztown, PA and California University of Pennsylvania,
on football scholarships. Mason held a lifelong passion for football, that
included twenty plus years of service to the PHMFA. Coach Mase as he
was affectionately named, served as a role model, and held high
expectations for his young protégé’s. Coach Mase was himself a record
holding running back for Penn Hills High School and Alumni of the
PHMFA Bantams. Mason, could have gone to many heights in his football
career, but he became a servant for the community of Penn Hills, spending
his life guiding future generations of young players, including his own
sons, as a committed coach and board member of the PHMFA.
On December 21, 2023, Mason suddenly but peacefully departed this life
to be with the Lord. A beautiful angel has gone home. Mason was preceded
in death by his daughter, Javanna Brodt, maternal grandparents, Arthur and
Mary Alice Penn, paternal grandparents, John Sr. and Mildred Murray,
