Mary Juanita (Hicks) Broadus

In Memory of A Loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Cousin and Friend

Mary Juanita Hicks Broadus (aka Hun) was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Mary Roberts and George Hicks on November 10, 1946. She was a 1965 graduate of Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh and continued her education, earning an LPN license and working primarily in private duty nursing. Prior to becoming an LPN, she served as a youth counselor at the Homewood YWCA for several years. It was during this time that she met and married her husband of 48 years, Harry L. Broadus of Braddock, PA.

Mary was a loving, gentle, selfless, and forgiving lady who truly loved her family and friends and had a passion for cruise travel, music, and the penny slots at the local casino or her favorite, Las Vegas. Anyone who knew Mary knows how she enjoyed laughter, holidays, gatherings with friends and family, and a good game of Bid Whist. She was also an avid Steelers and Kevin Durant fan. She also desired to be a “citizen of the world” and traveled to destinations such as Canada, Mexico, Barbados, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Aruba, the Dominican Republic, Hawaii, and other destinations in the Caribbean.

Upon retiring to Florida with her husband, Harry, Mary became an Associate Member of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club, Central Florida Chapter, and participated in many club activities and trips while creating many new friendships.

Mary was preceeded in death by her mother, Mary Gibbs, father George Hicks, step-father Robert Gibbs, sisters Barbara Pack, Constance Jones, and Kelley Gibbs. Mary transitioned at 6:16 AM on April 5, 2025, at her home in Verona, Pa, surrounded by her loving family.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her husband of 48 years Harry L. Broadus, daughters Rasheeda & Malika Broadus, granddaughters Kamyia & Kenya Scott, son David Hicks (Janet) of Pittsburgh, brother George Hicks (Norma), of Pittsburgh, sister Joanne (William ) Walker of Cocoa, Florida, brother in law Norman Jones of Pittsburgh, cousins Donna Moore (Kerry) and Marsha Roberts of Pittsburgh, and Kenny Dunnings (Patti) of Rockledge, Florida in addition to a host of other relatives and friends throughout the United States. She also cherished the lifelong friendships and love of Carolyn Nash, Sherry Carter, Elaine Thompson, and Dorothy Huntley.

Services are entrusted to the House of Law, Penn Hills, PA. where a Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4 PM, on April 19,2025 at the House of Law, 9406 Frankstown Road, Pittsburg, PA. 15235. A repass will immediately follow at Visionz, 4343 Verona Rd, Verona, PA 15147.
