Marvin Reginald Manker, Sr., the son of the late Aleine and Joseph O. Manker, Sr., was born May 31, 1948, in Pittsburgh, PA.
Marvin was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School District and graduated from Oliver High School in 1967. Upon graduation, Marvin entered the United States Navy. While serving he earned the National Defense Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Marvin received an honorable discharge and returned home and pursued higher education at Community College of Allegheny County. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and served for many years. He began a career as a sweeper operator with the City of Pittsburgh Public Works Division in 1972, where he continued until retirement in 2008. After retirement Marvin began a commercial cleaning business until illness caused him to close his business this past summer.
In 1972, Marvin married the late Evelyn Manker, the woman who would change his life forever. Over 44 years of their happy marriage they became parents of four children. Marvin enjoyed fishing and would take deep sea fishing trips regularly. He enjoyed spending time with family, going to musicals and concerts. Marvin was elated when his grandson Marvin R. Manker III was born in 2015 to carry on his name. He loved watching westerns on television. One of his favorites was "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly".
Marvin began his spiritual journey as a child at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on the North Side. He worshipped with his wife as a member of Whole Truth Church of God in Christ under the ministry of Elder Maurice B. Wade, Sr. for over 20 years where he served as a trustee. Marvin joined Pentecostal Temple in 2000. Marvin had a love for gospel music. Some of his favorite artists were Rance Allen, Walter Hawkins and Kirk Franklin to name a few. His favorite songs were "Marvelous" by Walter Hawkins and "Something About the Name Jesus" by Kirk Franklin featuring Rance Allen.
Early Monday, October 14th while surrounded by his children, Marvin slipped from time to embrace eternity in the presence of Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, He leave to perpetuate his legacy, loving children Ginger (Stephen) Thompkins of Baldwin, PA, Marvin Manker Jr., of Pittsburgh, PA, Maria (Anthony) McCreary of Monroeville, PA, and Marvin Hall of Pittsburgh, PA; siblings: Charles Manker, Thelma "Bunch" Shelton, Lena "Berta" Brown: grandchildren, Tyler and Michael Frost, Jr., Malaynie and Antony McCreary, Jr., and Marvin R. Manker III; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn and daughter Gloria Frost, siblings, Joseph O. Manker, Jr., Rochelle Randolph and Manuel Manker.
A loving father and friend, Marvin Reginald Manker, Sr. shall always be remembered.
