~The Obituary~
Majorie Arlene Oliver
As the Final Chapter has been written for the earthly life of Majorie Arlene Oliver, we will pay tribute to a Veteran, a Mother, and a Friend.
Born on January 23, 1938 to Arby and Myrtle Wilcox, Arlene, as she was affectionately called, grew into a bright and intelligent young woman. She married her first love. Earl Lee Miller Sr. (deceased) and to this union, one child was born.
Arlene then enlisted in the United States Air Force and studied Nursing. Upon receiving and Honorable Discharge as a 2nd Lieutenant, she finished and received her RN, BSN, MSN, APRN in Nursing from Montefiore School of Nursing.
Arlene was the first African American Nurse Administrator within the Health System of Montefiore Hospital, and later held the same positions at Presbyterian and Shadyside Hospitals, respectively.
Throughout her relevant and successful and professional career, Arlene was a Trailblazer in the Medical field. She passionately demanded the need for resources and education for the less fortunate. Arlene's presence at the "Table" guaranteed that her voice would be heard, and "Change" would happen ...and it did.
Her voice was also heard as an Advocate for Aids Education within the African American community in Pennsylvania.
Arlene was honored to be a member of the Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church. As a member of the Nurse, Health and Usher Ministries, she thrived, and was loved by all who saw the tenacity that drove her.
And as we close on this day, Arlene is being remembered, cherished and loved, by her Son, Earl Lee Miler Jr. (LeShawn), Sister Sandra Logan from Harrisburg PA, one Grandson, Brandon Lee Miller, Pittsburgh, PA, two Great Grand Children, three nieces, Stacy Logan-Kent, Sharla Logan, and Cassandra Logan, from Harrisburg, PA, and a community of relatives, beloved friends, and a bond of sisterhood that can never be broken.
