Marion Lee Scott, RN, was born July 26, 1927, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one of six children born to the late Benjamin and Jennie V. Johnson. She departed this life Tuesday, April 6, 2026. She married Harry W. Scott, Sr., on February 9, 1946. She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, “and (Barry) and one of her three sons”.
Marion attended Schenley High School, Class of 1945 and earned an Associate Degree in Science from the Community College of Allegheny County in 1976. She continued her studies while working and raising a family until she became a Licensed Registered Nurse in 1977.
In her lifetime, Marion had more than forty jobs: seamstress, real estate broker, pickle packer among them. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital until 1981. But she was most proud of her work as a PRYDE foster parent for more than thirty of the most challenging children. She even learned sign language to work with children who were deaf, and several have stayed in touch with her over the years.
Marion was a Deaconess at her church, Baptist Temple in Homewood, where she was a member for more than 70 years. Never one to just sit around, she was always involved in something. She was active in a number of social clubs, including the Adjuvants and the Stoop and Bend Garden Club. She was also well known for her work in community-based organisations. In 2019, at age 92, she was awarded a Certificate of Excellence and Achievement for her years of community service by the P.A. House of Representatives.
Marion lived her life to the fullest. She loved traveling to various parts of the world. She freely spoke her mind and fiercely defended what she thought was right. Dealing with her could be a challenge but you could count on her for support and words of encouragement in tough times. She had great friends who contributed to her life in amazing ways like taking her to Paris or hosting her 90th birthday party or simply calling her or stopping by to say hello.
She was “Aunt Marion” to her extended family who included her in every family gathering. Family and friends were important to her, and she did her best to show it in both words and deeds. She was known to many as a generous, caring, supportive woman. And as the end grew near, she was quick to tell you that her life was great, that she was not in pain.
She leaves to mourn or “celebrate” her life her sons, Robert, and Harry, daughter-in -law Elaine, grandson Aubrey Watkins, III, his wife Teresa, three great-grandsons, Christian, Aubrey Jr. and Andre Watkins, a great-granddaughter Samira and a host of special family members who refer to her as “Aunt Marion.” And let us not forget her beloved cat “Cali.”
