Marion Guyton Obituary

Marion Marie Guyton (Jackson) was born on April 5th, 1925, to the late Elmore and Marie Jackson. She peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022. She was raised in the Hill District on Whiteside Road, and attended Pittsburgh Public Schools, graduating from Fifth Avenue High School in 1943.

After graduation, she worked at Joseph Horne's in downtown Pittsburgh where she developed her excellent gift-wrapping skills. She then on to work at Mrs. Bee's gift shop in Shadyside, Eye, and Ear Hospital, and finally Shadyside Hospital (before it became UPMC) for 17 years as a Unit Secretary. She retired in 1989 to care for her husband Samuel.

She met and married Samuel Guyton in 1948 and out of that union they had four children: Gregory, Kim, Mark, and Lisa. Marion also known as Mom, Granny, Aunt "Mern", and Mrs. G, was a kind, loving, strong, intelligent, and compassionate woman who was loved and admired by all who knew her. She had a special place in her heart for all of her grandchildren, and all of the "babies" and would do anything for them. They were raised knowing that a call to their Granny would solve any problem they may have come across. She would make sure everybody ate, and would always ask, "Did the kids eat yet?", insisting that somebody go fix something for them because they were "hungry" (meanwhile they had eaten 3-4 times). Marion loved to travel, always going on trips with her friends to Canada, up and down the East Coast, California to visit her sisters, and numerous other places. Later in life, she became an avid fisherman, she and Sam would go fishing every weekend all around the Western region of Pennsylvania to the hot fishing spots, bringing back all kinds of fish, which she would expertly prepare. After Sam passed, she joined a fishing club and would go fishing excursions with the group. She eventually put down her fishing rod and began picking up all the grandbabies. She also had a special talent for sewing, making numerous outfits for her children and others, until she passed the sewing machine to her daughters.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband Samuel, son Gregory, brothers Elmore, Randolph, Floyd (Bootsie), and Joseph Jackson, sisters Virginia Jackson and Marjorie Greenwade. She leaves behind to cherish her beautiful life and memory: children, Kim Garner, Mark Guyton (Joy), Lisa Sandling (Terrance), and daughter in law Viola (Nudgie) Brown, sister Evon Johnson, 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, nieces Teena Brown (Robert), Cheryl Harris, Trina and Camille Jackson, nephew Earl (Porky) Parron and a host of other relatives and friends.
