Margaret Elizabeth McCord was born June 9, 1938, in Baltimore, MD. She was one of two daughters to the late Pauline Wright and John Jackson. She was affectionately known by her children as “Mushball” a nickname given by her late husband.
Margaret moved to Pittsburgh as a young girl and received her education in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and her most notable school memories were at Fifth Avenue High School. Margaret started her career at Hamburg Brothers in Pittsburgh. As she started to raise her children she transitioned and ran the family businesses; barbeque restaurant “Rib Crib” and the
auto reconditioning business “McCord Recon” until she decided to become a homemaker. She always desired to be a nurse but never had the opportunity to pursue it.
Margaret loved to travel with her late husband who was her best friend during her early years and especially loved going to Casinos in various cities. She also enjoyed boxing and would often travel to attend live boxing with her late husband. Margaret loved football and enjoyed the rivalry between her hometown Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She was dynamic at fast dancing and loved to cha-cha. Margaret loved music especially oldies music. One of her favorite oldies was Nat King Cole’s “ Thanks for the Memory “. Some of her favorite artists were Randy Crawford, Gladys Night, and Patti Labelle. One of Margaret's favorite pastimes was doing crafts; she could make many things. Margaret loved home décor, fashion and had a passion for shoes. While she was a very private person, she always attracted people to her in the Senior building where she lived and was loved by many people.
On Monday, November 22, 2021, during the midnight hour, Margaret transitioned into eternal rest. In her last few weeks, she was excited about the bible she received with her name on it and began to reacquaint herself with God. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her spouse Calvin McCord Sr., daughter in law Rhonda Wright; son in laws Calvin McCord Jr. and Earl Roberts; grandson Calvin McCord III.
Margaret is survived by her sister Catherine Vick, her daughters, Sheilah McCord; Okie Ferguson( George); Kim Young ( Arvin); Andrea McCord; Laurene Matthews( Bruce); Marilyn Roberts; sons Howard Wright; Keith Wright( Tammy); grandchildren Martin( Nicole), Tanaill, Stacy, Renata(Marcel), Maurisha , Kymberley, Justin(Anjali), Ashley(Brandon), D’Ondae, Louis, Chris Jr., Jonathan(Jessie), Shawn, Charday and Charay. In addition to her favorite cousins Alois, Michael, Chico, and Tony she leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends. Margaret will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
