Magnolia St. Clair Hemby was born on June 7, 1935, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late John St. Clair and Lena Waters Saint Clair. She was the third born of 7 siblings. Magnolia was educated in the Glenville Public High School, Cleveland OH. Magnolia accepted Christ at an early age.
Magnolia met and married the late Earl B. Hemby on January 15, 1955, and to that union 2 children were born, the late Andre Hemby and Derrick L. Hemby. They moved to Pittsburgh shortly thereafter.
She became a member of Sixth Mount Zion Missionary where she served working with the Youth Activity Ministry, Hospitality, and the Missionary Ministry. Mag became employed by the University of Pittsburgh Department of Student Health where she worked for 11 years. She and her husband became entrepreneurs, opening several establishments throughout Pittsburgh and Chicago.
Mag started the African American Women's Speaker Bureau celebrating survivors of breast cancer and bringing awareness to the cause. As a survivor herself, breast cancer awareness was something very near and dear to her heart. She had a good spirit, loved to have fun and loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Hemby, and son Andre, sisters Dorothy and Mildred, and brothers Frank, Freddie.
She leaves to cherish her memories; son Derrick (Carla), brother John (Joyce), and sister Margaret. Grandchildren; Sharise Nance (Bill), Derrick T. Hemby (Adawnah), Shawn Hemby, Edward Sadik (Monique), and Cortnei Sadik. She also leaves to cherish her memories eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
