Leroy Dowdy, Jr. Obituary

On December 26, 2019, Leroy Dowdy Jr. affectionately known as "Love Bug" to his wife, departed this earthly home to join his heavenly father.

Leroy was born on May 3, 1941 in Hartsville, South Carolina to Louise Dowdy and the Leroy Coker. He graduated from Hartsville High School and joined the army in 1963. He was in Company B , Battalion 2, 30th infantry. he served as a sharpshooter ( rifle M-14) while he was stationed in Germany. Leroy left the military with an honorable discharge after 8 years of service. He decided to leave the south and settle down in Pittsburgh, which gave hi time to explore all the Hill District had to Offer. He took various forms of employment there, including Duquesne University, Presbyterian Hospital. He later retired from First Transit ACCESS company. N between working in these different fields, he chose to attend community college for one year. Leroy welcomed Christ into his life during the seventies, he was a true warrior for the Lord. His Journey with the Lord had yet to really begin. He attended the Lord's Church in Monroeville, he went on to serve at the Pittsburgh Word of Faith Ministry located on the Northside. He served here under the Pastoral leadership of Pastor Vernon Walters, where he was latter ordained as an Elder (Assistant Pastor). Leroy was a disciple of Christ, was an advocate for spreading the lord's word to anyone whose mind was open to receiving that way of life. He would catch and occasional game on television, but fishing as the only sport Leroy had true passion for. He was happiest when fishing with his friends David Battle, but he was also content with sitting on his own with a fishing rod in his hand. What his friends and family will remember most is his warm smile. His presence could light up a room, but his laugh was just as contagious. Leroy showed his more care-free side with his mom-in-love, when they would sit together and enjoy good food while seeing who could eat the most in one sitting. Leroy was proceeded in death by his mother (Louise Dowdy), father ( Leroy Coker), stepmom ( Nancy Coker), daughter (Melissa Cooper-Jackson), and siblings (Annie Carver, AC Waller, Jerry Coker, and Tony Coker). Leroy leaves to cherish his loving wife Anna (AKA Baby doll), his two stepsons Craig Lamont Thomas grandchildren (Sabrina, James, Lamont Jr., Lena, Aje'ne, and Kylin), and six great grandchildren, and siblings Pearl Smith, Robert Waller, Mattie Hines, Carol Scott, Charles Coker, Leonard Coker (Renee), Pauline Nevin, (Jim) and a host of relatives and friends.
