On Saturday, May 4, 2024, our dad completed his assignment and turned it in on time. He was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania on August 29, 1939, to Edward and Zelma Reaves. He was educated in the Braddock Schools. He played for the Braddock Tigers Football. He graduated and went on to Arizona State University and the University of Pittsburgh and earned his degree in education. He was a teacher for Woodland Hills School District for 34 years. Along with teaching in the classroom, he was out on the football field shaping and molding football stars with Ron Suvak leading teams to championships. He was the first African American coach in the WPIAL, he was inducted into the East Boros Hall of Fame. His greatest accomplishments were Dad, Poppa, B-Paw and Grandpa. He was a friend like no other, if you had a need he was going to find a way to help, through stern words, clothes, shoes, or food for the table. He was a man of integrity. His personality was larger than life, his laughter would fill a room. Lary married Judith Brooks on August 28, 1965, to this union three children were born, Lawrence, Kent, and Tiffani. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal saviour and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church. He was ordained by Rev. Blanton Harper Jr. as a Deacon for New Hope Baptist Church where he served until his death. Lary leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Lawrence (Mikki) Reaves, Kent Reaves, and Tiffani (Elmer) Long. grandchildren Jamerah Reaves, Dejah Reaves, Marcus Long, Christopher Reaves, Nathan Long and one great-grandson Damani Brewer, and brother Kenneth Reaves, nieces, nephews extended family, and life-long friends.
