Kathleen Givens was born the youngest of eleven children to King and Frances Bray in the Hill district of Pittsburgh, PA on April 6, 1921. Her siblings were Calvin Bray, Anderson Bray, Emmogene Roberson, Lillian Armstrong, Marteal Bray King Julius Bray, and six others whose names we don’t have. She graduated from Schenley High School. She worked as a seamstress until she married William Givens on September 19, 1948. They remained married until his death in 1997. She was the mother of Bobbie Jean Crawford, (deceased), Shaunna Brown (Darrin) of North Carolina, and Melva Colbert (deceased). She was grandmother (mother) to Mark and Christopher Colbert, whom she raised since they were born. She took very good care of her family and older sisters, Lillian and Emma when they became older and sick. She accepted Christ at an early age and supported her sister Emma when she was called into the ministry, with her vision and church. After Emma‘s passing, she joined Ebenezer Baptist Church. She attended until her health failed. Kitty, as friends and family called her, was a very sharp dresser. She played the guitar and piano. She loved to skate and swim. She leaves to cherish her memory, 1 daughter, Shaunna (Darrin) Brown; 6 grandsons, 3 granddaughters; 12 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; nieces and a nephew; and a host of other relatives and friends. í ½í²•
