June Epps (Williams) Green Obituary

She was Sassy, Classy and Fiercely Independent, Intelligent, Educated and a Servant to family, friends and the community. She was an inspiration to all who entered her orbit.

Beloved Great Grandmother, Grandmother, Mother, Sister and Friend, Mrs. June Maryanne Epps (Williams) Green. June was born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 23, 1931, to parents Charles Harry Epps and Marjorie Sue Jackson Epps, both deceased.  June transitioned on July 8, 2025, after suffering a traumatic stroke on May 19, 2025.

June graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in Baltimore, MD.  While attending Morgan State University, she met her first husband, Cosco Aldarphia Williams, Jr. This union produced her only child, Cosco Eric Williams, in 1961.  She continued to pursue her education by receiving a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Howard University in 1964. After returning to Baltimore, she was employed by the Social Security Administration. While working at the SSA, she met her second husband, Sihugo Green, and soon after, moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  June wrote, “The best accomplishment of my life, is my son Scoop”.

In Pittsburgh, June became a Social Work Administrator for the Pittsburgh Public School District, as well as Director of the HeadStart Program.  She was also an entrepreneur, owning her real estate business, Greenland Enterprises.

In 1980, her beloved husband, Sihugo Green died. Mrs. Green continued working until retirement in the early 90’s.

Mrs. Green enjoyed various activities and belonged to several organizations. She was a member of The Pierians, Inc. (Pittsburgh Chapter), The Bridge Club, Vintage and Homewood Senior Centers, also WomenspaceEast Board of Directors.  June showed interest in fine arts, jazz, cultural experiences and traveled extensively to West Africa (particularly Goree Island), Egypt, Senegal, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Denmark, Paris, Amsterdam, and Caribbean Islands.  June was a member of the Senior Citizens Center, and an avid Pittsburgh Steelers FAN.  During her membership of the Senior Citizens Center, she met her very special friend, Russell Bowe.  They were inseparable and they traveled the world together.

She enjoyed singing and loved music from Jazz, Symphonic, to the Blues, and Gospel.  June also enjoyed Line Dancing and just dancing in general.

In 2019, June came to Stone Mountain, Georgia to visit her son and his new wife. Her plan was to stay a few months, she often “snow birded” in the winter. When Covid 19 Pandemic hit in early 2020, we convinced her to move in with us permanently.   Activities slowed during this period; however, she continued to keep in touchwith family and special friends.  As Covid calmed, traveling, concerts and family gatherings resumed.  She also joined East Dekalb at Bruce Street, Senior Center.  June loved life, family and friends, she will truly be missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory her only son Cosco E.
