Joyce Ann (Rawlings) Green

Joyce Ann Rawlings Green, daughter of the late Albert E. Rawlings, Sr. and the late Virginia E. (Gunn) Rawlings, affectionately known as "Headquarters" within her family, was born January 23, 1940. As the oldest of 14 children, Joyce played a pivotal role in her family's life. Joyce married Marchele Green on October 13, 1978, and they, with much love and joy, had one child, Michele! Joyce worked for Delta Airlines, which allowed her to travel the world and share those experiences with her parents whenever possible. She dedicated her professional life to education, serving as a paraprofessional for Pittsburgh Public Schools until her retirement. Joyce gave her life to the Lord at a young age and was baptized in Jesus name. She was a faithful member of the Christ Temple Church of Pittsburgh under the leadership of her brother, Pastor Marvin A. Rawlings, Sr until her passing. She served as a Deaconess at New Life Family Worship Center and later at Christ Temple Church of Pittsburgh. Joyce was a devoted lover of her family and people. She was a giver and an exemplary big sister. She loved to do whatever she could to alleviate anyone’s burden or hardship. Often, she would secretly pay a bill, order something or just give sound advice to help even a stranger in need. She was a compass for her siblings with a flare for beauty, decorum and excellence that defined her. She could cook and bake like none other. Her sweet potato was renamed the Joyce Potatoe Pie! Joyce was preceded in death by her siblings: Albert Rawlings, Jr., Stephen P. Rawlings, Alan Curtis Rawlings, Sr., David M. Rawlings, Lydia Rawlings Thornhill, Kenneth G. Rawlings, Sr., Philip G. Rawlings, and Jeffrey N. Rawlings, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Marchele Green; her daughter, Michele Topeck; her son Maurice Green; her stepdaughter (Yvonne); her stepson (Moe); and thirteen grandchildren, Ethan Horace, Eva Grace, Jeriah Maurice Phillip, Kassidy Alexis, Maurice Phillip Jr., Zion Marc, Kamaya Jewel, Kalaya Queen, Kalani Love, Robert De La Rente, Xavier Darrick, Tihanna Leigh, and Tyangela Collins ; 2 great-grandchildren Blair Xavier & Blake Peyton; and 2 grandpups Bear & Boomer. Joyce is survived by her three sisters, Catherine E. Brewer, Denise C. Rawlings, and Dianne C. Edwell (James); her brother, Marvin A. Rawlings, Sr. (Sheila); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends who loved her.
