Joshua Hamilton Obituary

Joshua Brian Hamilton was born on April 27, 2002 in Pittsburgh, PA.  He was the youngest son of both Hazel E. Jones-Hamilton and Russell E. Hamilton, Sr.  He passed away un-expectantly on the night of Thursday, January 20, 2022.

Joshua attended Pittsburgh Mifflin Elementary School, Propel Schools – Northside, Pittsburgh Westinghouse High, and Carlynton Junior/Senior High School.

From a young age, Joshua loved going to church.  He went with his family to three connected churches, St. John’s Baptist Church, Morningstar Baptist Church, and Second Baptist Church of McKee’s Rocks.  At St. John’s Baptist Church, while his mother sang in the choir, young Joshua would escape from his siblings and go up the Pulpit and sit down.  The first lady of the church, Mrs. Wilma Coon, would tell his mother to “leave that boy alone”, as Joshua was “walking into his destiny”.

Throughout his life, he showed his love and care for people. He volunteered at several Food Banks, packing and loading boxes, taking food to people, and helping in whatever capacity asked.  When he got his state ID, Joshua made himself an organ donor.  In his passing, he continues to show his love and care for all.  Joshua became a talented piano player, a talent he began in his youth.  He also loved zooming around on his skateboards.

Beginning in his teen years, Joshua got his first job at a Pizza Shop.  At the time of his passing, he was working at Family Dollar and also as a Construction Worker.  In doing construction, Thomas Stevens had taken Joshua under his wings and taught him painting, all types of flooring, and some roofing.  Thomas described Joshua as “the most kindest kid I ever met”.  When called, he said tearfully that Josh was coming over this week (week of January 24th) to start and help with a “big job”, he was my son and he was my daughter Kaytlin’s best friend”.

Joshua was proceeded in his passing by his brother, Russell E. Hamilton, Jr., his maternal grandparents, Effie M. McMillan and Gene D. McMillan; paternal grandparents, Wilma Hamilton and Joseph W. Hamilton.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Hazel E. Jones-Hamilton; his father, Russell E. Hamilton, Sr; self-adopted father, Thomas Stevens; siblings Armand Devin McMillan, Ahmad Desmond McMillan, Danielle M. Jones-Gordon, Leona G. Jones, Hurley L. Jones III, Travis M.
