Jonathan Ward Obituary

Jonathan was devoted to and enjoyed spending quality time with his family. He took personal interest in instilling Godly values into his children and grandchildren and encouraged them to work hard to achieve their life goals. Joe was a faithful and humble Christian who previously served in various ministries at Bethany Baptist Church such as The Master’s Kitchen, The Usher Board, and Van Transportation.

Jonathan was employed in various positions and retired as the Section Chief of Environmental Management Services at the Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) in Aspinwall. During his tenure of 38 years at VAMC, he attended Community College of Allegheny County and retired in January 1997.

Joe enjoyed traveling, gardening, bowling, playing tennis, and personal fitness. He was a passionate athlete, who finished three marathons. In addition, Joe was a skilled craftsman and was gifted with the ability to diagnose and make repairs with whatever resources were available.

He will forever be in our hearts and we are grateful to God for allowing him to be a part of our lives. Jonathan was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers; Thomas Roger, Christopher and John Frank Ward. Joe leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Darlene Ward of 47 years. Joe was dedicated to his family and is survived by his sons: Michael Ward and Jonathan Ward II (Kelly Meade) and his daughters Denise Bell (Bobby Bell) and Sharon Tyre. Joe, better known as “Pap Pap” was instrumental in his grandchildren's upbringing; Branden Walker, Alexander Tyre, Erika Figueroa, Miccah Beadles, Jordan Tyre, Jonathan Thomas and Jaelyn Ward.

Also, Joe leaves to treasure precious memories, his Brothers: Alfred, Norris, Willie and Larry Ward, and Sisters: Barbara West, Sylvia Calhoun, Faye Ward, and Jacqueline Payne (Frank) and Sister in Law; Jaynell Wright and Brother in Law; Reginald English. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
