Johnnie Jones, Jr. Obituary

Johnnie Jones Jr. was born on May 31, 1959 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Johnnie Jones Sr. and Annie Jones. He passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.

Johnnie grew up in the East Liberty area of Pittsburgh and graduated from Peabody High School. After high school, Johnnie worked for National Record Mart as a sales representative and then moved on to work at Duquesne Light Company as a line foreman for a number of years. In the 1990’s Johnnie joined the United States Navy serving his country and was a veteran of Desert Storm. Upon completing his service, Johnnie was employed by John CR Kelly Realty as a general contractor. He most recently worked in various positions at the Pittsburgh Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital where he took the most pride in working with the elderly population.

Johnnie was an avid sports fan. He was a fan of the Lakers basketball team and the biggest fan of each Pittsburgh professional team, Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. He was a true ‘Jack of All Trades’ who knew something about everything and could fix anything. Johnnie was a ‘people person’ who had countless friends and could carry on a conversation with a stranger he just met. He loved to brag about his children and grandchildren, how they brought him great joy, and he cherished the time they spent together.

Johnnie attended Valley View Presbyterian Church as a child. He and his son Dorian Jones were baptized on the same day in 1994 at Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Jones, Sr. and his sister Inez Tavakoli. He leaves to mourn his loss his loving family: wife, Deborah Turner-Jones; children, Torrie Jones-Snyder (Christopher) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Dorian Jones (Dawnn) of Weehawken, New Jersey; mother, Annie Jones; siblings, Jacqueline Johnson of Birmingham, Alabama, Jerry Jones (Donna), Terry Jones (Constance), Iona “Cookie” Pope (Vincent), Thomas “Buddy” Jones, all of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Cylie Snyder, Brooke Snyder, Madison Snyder, all of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kenyon Jones, Kayden Jones, and Kaiya Jones, all of Weehawken, New Jersey; nieces and nephews: Tredessa “Boosie” Jones of Atlanta, Georgia, Ebony English (DeWayne) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, LaToya Hall of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cinque Johnson of Birmingham, Alabama, Omid Tavakoli of Cleveland, Ohio, Terry Jones Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and a host of great nieces and nephews.

The family of Johnnie Jones Jr. acknowledges, with sincere appreciation, your understanding, your prayers, and all acts of kindness shown at this time of bereavement.
