John Henry Andrews was born on July 5 th, 1931 to the late Estelle Smith and Eldridge Andrews. John Andrews passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on February 6, 2020 at the age of 88. John graduated from Schenley High School in Pittsburgh, Pa and went on to enlist in the United States Navy in 1948. He had an honorable discharge in 1969. He then went to work at US Steel for 18 years. After retirement, John couldn’t sit still. You often saw him assisting individuals in the community, telling stories, and most of all, being active in his grandchildren’s lives. He never missed a Lincoln-Lemington pee-wee football game. You could always find him working at the front gate, and making sure everything was running smoothly. The coaches loved having his presence. Spending time with his grandchildren was one of his top priorities, whether it was feeding the ducks at Highland Park, going on vacation to Florida, or simple things like taking them to school. John met and married Donice Carter in November 1972. From this union, they were blessed with two sons. Jason (Jeanine) and James (Shari) all from Pittsburgh, Pa. John’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by all of his eight grandchildren, Jason Jr., Jaden, Jayla, John, Justin, Jacob, Jaiya, and James Jr. He is also survived by two daughters Julie Andrews of Norfolk, VA, Audra Fields of Silver Springs, MA, and grandchildren Ayanna, Aisha, and Carlton. John also leaves a brother Jack Cook Jr. (Priscilla), sister-in-law’s Aurelia Cooley (Melvin) of Winchester Virginia, Jamie Woodson of Pittsburgh, Pa, brother-in-law John Posey (Kathe), Huntingdon, Pa, niece Monica Brown, and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
